The threat of spyware programs affects and destroys the integrity of the interactive community. Unlike the regular computer virus which, at its worst, can only lead to complete eradication of data, spywares are capable of doing worst things. Aside from destroying your system and rendering your PC practically incapable of performing its functions, spywares actually collect various information about you, many of which can be quite sensitive, and passing these over to any number of unknown and unscrupulous people who can use such information to further advance their sinister plans. In effect, the program has the power to basically take away that which is most important to you \u2013 your identity.
The threat is real, and growing at a very rapid pace. That is why several counter measures have been developed to block, if not totally stop, the danger that we know today as spyware. These counter measures are more popularly known as anti-spyware softwares. Some of them have been conceptualized as early as few years ago. Many of them though are quite new, basically in response to the introduction of newer and often more dangerous spyware products.
In general, anti-spyware softwares are categorized into three divisions. These are the immunizers, the protectors, and the scanners. The immunizers are programs that protect the system by blocking the entry of spywares in advance. They are able to do this by securing areas in the computer system that are the usual targets of spyware applications. They either modify these areas or otherwise disable their basic functions to download data known to contain the dreaded spyware.
Protectors, meanwhile, are the monitoring programs regularly doing inspection works on how the computer system is being used, at the same time, keeping an open eye for any attempt by spyware to enter the system through any of the available means like downloads, change in settings, and the like.
For their part, scanners act as the destroyers. These programs simply make an analysis of the entire computer system, then seek those files, folders, and processes which have been infected by spyware and destroy or eliminate them.
All anti-spyware softwares fall in any of these three general categories. Each of these classifications has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Immunizers, for instance, are quite friendly, since using them will not necessarily cause users to lose one or even all of their system files, a common experience among the early PC users. However, immunizers have the disadvantage of offering little real protection, especially when the newer breed of spyware launch an all-out attack. This is because immunizers are suited only for the earlier spyware versions and will have no match against the latest spyware types. Nevertheless, immunizers are still capable of providing an extra layer against an initial spyware attack. That is certainly better than having no protection at all.
The choice of which particular anti-spyware type to use when your PC has been infected with spyware will largely depend on what kind of spyware has actually gained entry into your system. In this regard, a brief description of several of today's more popular and highly effective anti-spyware softwares should be studied so as to familiarize you with their different functions and capabilities and help you choose which one will offer the best solution to your spyware dilemma.
