Decades ago, things were much easier and more identifiable. People wake up, attend to their personal and professional lives, then go back to sleep. Any disturbance or form of wavering in the routine is immediately addressed to regain some order or simpler way of living. However, with the introduction of various technologies in people's lives, things became a bit more complicated. Although the main premise of having these technologies is to bring some convenience to everyone in their usual practices and systems of getting every detail done, the harsh reality that these same technologies could go haywire and wreak some havoc in the very organization it aims to build cannot be ignored.
The Internet is one of the technologies that can best illustrate this point. With the Internet, people can now communicate with each other faster and more conveniently, in spite of the differences in geographical locations. In fact, not only gaps in time and space could be mended by this technology; even social classes, demographics, and individual characteristics are reconciled by the Internet in one vast, immense, and open platform. Since the Internet is a whole new means of communication and comes with virtually no boundaries, information is easily encoded or entered, transferred, and shared. Gone are the days when kids go back and forth to the nearest library just to do some research and gone, too, are the times when all you get to hear from your loved ones overseas is about once a month via snail mail. Indeed, the Internet can provide possibilities for people to connect with one another or with other systems to obtain information.
However, because the open nature of the Internet allows people the option to be anonymous and to obtain almost any data they need 24 hours a day, other malevolent elements have also found their way into taking advantage of the benefits that the technology offers. Today, it is common to hear of viruses attacking vital government or corporate databases and destroying crucial files. Other elements to watch out for are worms and wares. There are different kinds of wares and of these wares, online users have to be wary of spyware.
From the label itself, anyone can tell that having spyware on the computer is no good. Simply put, spyware is like its human counterpart -- a spy agent, for example. It tails you wherever you go and observes every action you take at a distance. It is discreet and silent, and almost impossible to catch, and thereby, get rid of. Spyware intrudes your privacy in the time you spend online or browsing the Internet. More significantly, spyware can cause some damages and long-term ill effects to the overall performance of a computer. Due to the very inconspicuous and malicious nature of spyware, it is important that the people who avail and use technologies like the Internet know and understand the existence of such program. This ensures people of a more convenient and enjoyable time of using the Internet, and the computer of a better performance.
