Advantages/Strengths

As mentioned before, DU Meter adjusts perfectly with Windows-based programs. When in full operational, the software's presence can hardly be noticed as it practically causes no major changes in one's system files.

With DU Meter, one can closely monitor all uploading and downloading processes in his PC with a stopwatch to boot so he can record download hours and the average length of time consumed during transfer. One can even scale down the software to the downloading power of one's own modem. Other interesting features include an option for the user to choose a personal network interface and an optional command wherein the user will be informed of an automatic online disconnection once there occurs a significant drop in network activity.

But more than all these extra features, what makes DU Meter stand out among other softwares is its basic function -- to provide its users with an accurate presentation of all the information coming through their computers regardless of the network connection during any particular time of the day. The real-time presentation is made in clear and bright graphical and numerical versions with every readout available in two speed modes.

Disadvantages/Weaknesses

While it may be just a piece of admirable computer software, DU Meter also has its fair share of letdowns though these are not really major ones. Just the same, taking note of them is a clever idea so that potential buyers won't be expecting for a totally perfect do-it-all computer package.

For one, DU Meter can be scaled down in size. Yet, the question is, how small you want the software to get? Is a box or a square about 10 percent the size of the computer screen small enough? That's about how small the software can get. If that's small enough, then no problem, but if that is still too big, then you may start worrying about your computer.

DU Meter also has problems with regards its real-time graphic presentations. It has the added ability to abruptly change its graphs from small scrolling boxes into large ones from time to time, which appears to be very annoying. Of course, you can practically resize the box if you want, but that will consume a few seconds of your precious time. Anyway, this is just be a glitch in one particular software. It is possible that other users are not experiencing the same trouble with their DU Meters.

Price

The current price of the DU Meter software is set at $19.95 for individual licensees, but this is only up to a limited period. For quick and safe purchases, it is recommended that buyers purchase the software online at its official website where purchases are automatically accompanied by a month-long warranty or you get your money back. As for bulk purchases, discounts are also available subject to certain terms and conditions.

Also, when purchasing the software, you are not only given free unlimited use of DU Meter. You are also qualified to receive future updates of the package, including version 3.x, and this will be given to you at absolutely no cost. Additionally, you also help future development projects of the software with every purchase.

Software Size

The average size of one DU Meter software is about 923 kilobytes, but it can be resized once it is installed and already functions in your PC. Actually, size is one prime attraction of this particular software. It is quite compact and takes up very little desktop space. Aside from that, DU Meter has a built-in technology to further shrink its size depending on how small you want it to be when seen in the computer screen. Thus, you can start your internet browsing having either a minimized or maximized screen. You can even opt to program an automatic minimized set up when the PC is not going to be used for an extended time period.

Operating System Required/Compatibility

For those who are still unsure on whether or not DU Meter will work for their PC's, all you need to do is to match the software with the operating system of your computers. Specifically, your PC must be powered by Microsoft Windows in virtually any version for the software to function efficiently. Ideally though, DU Meter will work best with the following Windows versions: Win95, Win98, Windows 2000, WinNT 4x, WinME, and WinXP.

The great thing about Windows-based PC's is that their operating systems are practically universally used, meaning almost all internet connections in the world are powered by Microsoft Windows. Thus, if you ever get desire to purchase a DU Meter software to help you monitor the many data that comes in to your PC, you need not to worry about its functionality. So long as your PC has a Windows-based program, you can rest assure that DU Meter will be able to deliver its basic function.

Occupying just a small corner on the lower right side of your desktop, DU Meter is often the first of the many features that gets installed in your PC during cases wherein you need to reinstall your computer operating system.

License

With its many wonderful features, it is no wonder that DU Meter was able to forge several licensing agreements with several large and prominent companies. These include big companies such as JPMorgan Chase, ATT Wireless, InfoSys, Nortel, Reuters, Mobilkom in Austria, Alcatel, Lucent, Raytheon, Fourelle Systems, Verizon Wireless, Texaco, Compaq, Sierra Wireless, Hilton Central School District (NY).

Several major businesses also have existing license contracts with the software's manufacturers and dealers. However, these large corporations have stipulations in their contracts which prohibit them from having their names disclosed as among the many who subscribe to the software. Nevertheless, their inclusion in the list of official DU Meter customers is a proof that the software is highly recommended.
