Advantages/Strengths

Courier Email has numerous outstanding tools that would make organizing emails fun and hassle-free. It has a newly-introduced feature called "Color Markers" that lets the user easily sort out his mails. The feature allows the labeling of certain mails depending on the nature of its contents. This way, a user can immediately tell which mails he should prioritize first. He can even configure how the labeling would appear by changing the background colors and the fonts. Reading mails is also done in style as users will be able to toggle between viewing the mail in HTML or plain text format.

It's also safe and secure because the program comes with a built-in tool that rids the user's inbox of all the unnecessary spams. The user can also fully customize his security configurations for disabling videos, sounds, images, Active X, Javascript in all his HTML mails. The address book has an encryption so no viruses and worms can access the user's contacts. File attachments are also monitored to stop the user from unintentionally downloading virus-infected files.

Another positive characteristic of Courier Email is that it supports numerous email accounts so a user will have no trouble switching from one account to another at all. The program allows simultaneous and individual checking of email accounts. It can also import addresses from another mail program.

Disadvantages/Weaknesses

A mark of a good product is that it has little to no drawbacks at all. Courier Email is near perfect, but it still won't be avoided that it contains a few small glitches. Although the user-interface of Courier Email is intuitive, the overall design leaves a lot to be desired. It is simple to the point of dull, but to be fair, the software's tools and panes are arranged in a neat fashion. Because it has plenty of options and tools, one may find difficulty running through all of them. It would certainly take quite some time for a beginner to completely get the hang of all the various options.

It claims that it can import from any mail program, but somehow it gets a little lost when a user needs to import Outlook and Thunderbird. But since it does effective importing from other mail applications, it isn't really much of a disadvantage at all.

A user may also encounter slight difficulty when searching for files of a particular size. Being able to find a file according to its size is handy especially when a user wants to get rid of those mails that occupy a lot of space. Since this tool isn't available, a user would still have to go through all his folders to locate files of a certain file size. But all these are just minor drawbacks if compared to the amazing usability of the software.

Price

Unlike other email alternatives, Courier Email does not cost much to acquire. Unlimited use of this Calypso update comes with a small price, and a user needs to shell out a measly $29.95. That's a small fee compared to all the stuff a user can do with it. It's relatively inexpensive, considering that the software comes with a wide range of cool features. What is thirty bucks when it does almost all of a user's email needs? It's a fair price to pay for its first-class performance. What more, a user can give it a try first before deciding to buy it.

Software Size

Another good thing about Courier Email is that it does not take much of the computer's hard disk space. Some files and application are even bigger than Courier Email. This email client only takes up a meager 4 MB of space. That is really unbelievably small seeing as it does numerous useful functions and tasks. Any user would not have to remove other applications just to fit this one in his personal computer. Just install it and it's good to go. It might be small in size, but it's definitely big in functionality. Courier Email is an existing proof that big things really come in small packages.

Operating System Required/Compatibility

Windows users, rejoice and celebrate. Courier Email is compatible with any computer using Windows operating systems. It only runs on Windows so don't attempt to run it on a PC with a different operating system because it might cause problems with the existing system. It does not require anything else so installing it will be no problem at all. Courier Email is very flexible as it is compatible with most versions of Windows. Anyone using Windows 95, 98, 2000, 2003, NT, ME, and XP can install this one-stop email task handler right away. Installing it is also very quick and easy.

Of course, a user needs an Internet connection to be able for Courier Email to check email accounts. Any Internet connection is okay, may it be dial-up or broadband, but the faster the connection, the better. And since it has a built-in filter to assure that no worms and viruses penetrate the computer's system, it would not need the help of an anti-virus software. Also, installing Courier Email in a laptop won't be a problem, provided that the laptop uses a Windows operating system. Any user who encounters difficulties and concerns with the program can readily refer to its dependable technical support.

License

Courier Email is a shareware, meaning that users thinking of purchasing it can give it a try. There are no locked features on the trial version, which is good, but it can only be used for a certain period of time. The trial period is 30 days, that's already long enough to completely make the most out of the application. The developer's site offers a limited offer where anyone can register their Courier Email 3.5 version for free. A user who wants to get a free registered Courier New will just provide an email address to the site. The free version does not include technical support though, so a user would still have to purchase the one year premium technical support.
